Intravenous Laser Light Therapy
Understanding the Benefits of ILLT

This therapy is so new in the US that it is almost unheard of... but is has been used since the 1960's in other countries. The development of intravenous low level laser therapy (known as ILLT), began in Russia and is used extensively in Germany. Worldwide interest has been illustrated by its use in more than 85 institutions in over 37 countries. Since the first study was reported in 1967, some 2500 papers have been published in a range of journals worldwide. Over a million treatments have been administered with demonstrated improvements in a wide array of health problems.

Today, numerous international private practices and clinics use Intravenous Laser Therapy. Also universities have recognized the potential of this therapy method and made it the focus of their research.

What Is It?

Intravenous Laser Therapy enables the application of laser light directly into the bloodstream by using a special fiber optic IV catheter technology. The laser light stimulates circulating blood cells and stem cells.
Cold lasers produce a concentrated, low-power form of light energy with very powerful effects. Cold lasers are noninvasive and nondestructive, no sound, vibration or heat is produced and is completely safe to use in and on the body.

A needle is used to enter a vein - like a regular IV. An optical fiber carries the laser light from the generating device through the needle, and into the bloodstream. Blood cells take an average of one minute to be pumped all the way through the body. So, during a 10 minute session, the entire blood supply is exposed to the color laser around 10 times. It's a total game changer in Naturopathic Medicine.

What Effects Do The Different Colors Have?

We currently have 4 different laser colors available. Each one of the laser colors potentially stimulates the healing process. Individual colors do have certain benefits according to studies.
Mobirise

Red: Energizing effect (increased ATP production – which is the energy current of the cells which makes the cells stronger), strengthens the immune system, increases cell activity, regenerates damaged tissue structures and improves circulation. It also reduces inflammation and healing time.

Mobirise

Green: improves oxygen carrying ability of blood cells, improves blood flow, helps reduce blood pressure, and increases nitric oxide (which helps improve arteries, improves brain function, and may boost sexual function). It also reduces pain caused by inflammation and swelling.

Mobirise

Blue: Improves microcirculation by nitric oxide release (which also is very powerful at stimulating stem cells to work), strong anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects, accelerates wound healing, supports pain relief, stimulates the immune system to be more active, and activates telomerase and biogenesis of mitochondria with maximum anti-aging effects.

Inside the nucleus of a cell, our genes are arranged along twisted, double-stranded molecules of DNA called chromosomes. At the ends of the chromosomes are stretches of DNA called telomeres. As we get older, those telomeres get shorter and shorter. Studies have been done which support the belief that this is the key to the aging process. In theory, by increasing telomeres you can actually turn back the clock on aging. The blue light actually activates this.

Ultraviolet: antimicrobial - meaning that it destroys bacteria, viruses, or fungi that are in the bloodstream (such as Lyme, Epstein barr, candida, etc.), activates the immune system, increases oxygen absorption, increases the body's ability to make vitamin D, helps with detoxification, etc.. (UV treatment of blood also known as Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation (UBI) was developed in the United States, beginning in 1928. Ultraviolet laser light is currently used superficially to sanitize things and for certain skin disorders)

Health Conditions

Global clinical and laboratory research has shown that IV laser therapy has helped improve health of people with all sorts of health issues. The reason it works well on so many health problems is because diseases have a few things in common - inflammation, reduced oxygen levels, reduced circulation, abnormal immune system function, and reduced cellular energy.
Antibiotics only treat bacterial infections and not even all of them. IV laser works on fungi, bacteria, parasites and viruses. Since IV laser covers such a broad spectrum, it may actually support the healing process in people with all types of infections and treat symptoms of chronic conditions. Please note that we are NOT suggesting that you discontinue any prescribed treatment regimen.

Because the laser has a positive effect on each of these, virtually all sorts of health challenges have shown improvement in studies. It should be noted that many of these studies were small and some were not properly controlled, but the results are exciting none the less.
The result is reduced symptoms (which may result in reduction of medications), improved quality of life, and increased longevity. Studies have shown that IV laser treatment improves athletic performance in certain situations.

Benefits Last

Some benefits of intravenous laser will be immediate. More than 50% of patients will notice a boost in energy or sense of well-being within a few hours of treatment. Others may take a day or so to notice any effects. Most people do best with a trial of several sessions before taking a break. Research has shown that certain benefits may last up to 24 months. Around 120 days is more common.

In over one million treatments world-wide, no serious adverse effects have been reported, except for pain or bruising at the IV site. The type of cold laser we use is FDA approved, however there is no research done by the FDA on treatment outcomes of IV laser treatment.

F.D.A Recognition of Cold Laser Therapy

The F.D.A classifies medical lasers into three categories:
Class 4 Surgical Lasers
Class 3B Non-surgical Lasers
Class 3A Low-Level Lasers

Class 4 Surgical Lasers are used to cut, coagulate, and vaporize tissue. This is different from Class 3B and Class 3A non-surgical lasers, which are painless, non-burning, and non-cutting forms of lasers. Class 3B or Class 3A Low Level Lasers do not have the intensity to damage cells. Class 3A lasers help heal superficial wounds and conditions and will typically not penetrate below the skin’s surface. However, Class 3B low level lasers have the ability to penetrate and assist in the healing process of deep tissue and joint problems.

The first experimental FDA clearance of Class 3B Lasers occurred in February of 2002, after a successful study for carpal tunnel syndrome on workers at General Motors. The laser that was used had a power of 90mw at 830nm.

Certain low level laser devices are also FDA approved for relief of the following conditions:

Muscle and joint pain
Stiffness associated with arthritis
Pain associated with muscle spasms
Hand pain and wrist pain associated with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Neck pain
Lower back pain
Wound healing

The FDA has not yet made a recommendation regarding IV low level laser use.

While it is still a relatively new treatment option and there is incomplete information about its optimal treatment protocol, it is considered a viable treatment option for those seeking an alternative to invasive treatment and drugs.

Patients do not typically get full relief or resolution from their pain symptoms after the first treatment. It takes a series of treatments, which varies depending on the severity and duration of the condition.
Old injuries or significant inflammation may be aggravated for a few days after treatments, but for most patients this sensation is short term, lasting for a couple of days, and over time the inflammation is significantly decreased.
